MIA Talks: The Framework for Screening Foreign Investments in Spain

On November 20th, the first session of a new cycle of informational meetings organized by Madrid Investment Attraction (MIA) will be held at the International Lab (Calle Bailén, 41). These meetings are aimed at the foreign business community present in the capital.

The theme of the event will be the screening of foreign investments in Spain. Marta Font Monfort, Deputy Director-General for Foreign Investments in the General Directorate of Trade Policy and Economic Security at the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry, and Raimundo Ortega Bueno, partner at the international law firm Jones Day, will participate.

Marta Font Monfort will explain the main elements of the current legal framework, such as the criteria that define which operations must go through the screening system, the deadlines and phases of the administrative procedure, as well as the developments expected in the European legislation currently under development. Raimundo Ortega Bueno will provide a practical perspective from a legal advisory standpoint to investors, focusing on the most common challenges foreign companies face during the process, as well as best practices for efficient and strategic management of investment control.

In a global context of increasing attention to economic security and investment control, this session aims to provide a clear and up-to-date view on the mechanisms for reviewing and supervising foreign direct investment (FDI) operations in Spain. Additionally, this initiative by Madrid Investment Attraction encourages direct dialogue between public and private sector actors, creating a space for specialized networking.
